A SIEGE OF SALT AND SAND - A documentary exploration of 21st century “climate chaos” in Tunisia

Educational film screening & transcultural teach-in on April 20, 7 - 10 pm at BonnLAB, Zingsheimstr. 2, Bonn-Beuel

Last month Bonnections launched a new event series aimed to spread the word about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bring together local and global change makers. The monthly "susty vibes" series will include film screenings, teach-ins, concerts and other creative gatherings.

The kick-off in March was a screening of the CodeGirlMovie for Women's Day (SDG5, gender equality).

This month, in honor of Earth Day (April 22), the initiative will turn our eyes to North Africa und present the film "A Siege of Salt & Sand" about the effects of global warming in Tunisia (SDG13, climate action).

In 2013, Radhouane Addala and Samuel McNeil ventured across the country to interview, film and understand how climate change is impacting the population. Tunisia loses about 100,000 acres of land each year due to desertification and is one of the few countries in the world that recognizes climate change in its constitution.

Addala will join us via live stream for an after-screening discussion. We also like to explore how climate change is affecting other countries in the MENA region and the interdependence of drought, poverty, conflict and migration.

The 2017 Earth Day motto is "environmental & climate literacy".
The screening is free of charge. If you like, you can bring finger food & beverages.

At the event, the initiative will also give you a taste of Tunisia & Syria and introduce a "recipe for change": the wonderbag, a simple but revolutionary, non-electric portable slow cooker made in South Africa. http://www.wonderbagworld.com/

Bonnections is a local grassroots initiative founded a year ago by a diverse group local residents, including refugees, development and media professionals. Together, they are organizing monthly readings and other incultural events. Their aim is to foster an open and constructive dialogue, to share ideas and knowledge (both online & offline) and to empower and inspire each other.

The group meets twice a month (every 2nd and 4th Thursday, 7-10 pm) at BonnLAB to network and develop project ideas. Everyone is warmly welcome.
